Wordle Solver: Find Every Possible Word From Your Clues
Stuck on today's Wordle? This free Wordle solver takes the clues from your own guesses and shows every 5-letter word that still fits, so you can choose your next guess with confidence.
It works for every Wordle puzzle, on any phone or computer. The solver does not know today's answer, so nothing is spoiled: it simply filters the full word list using the green, yellow and grey clues you enter. You also get a suggested next guess, and the most likely answers are listed separately from rarer words that Wordle accepts as guesses.
Grey: not in word Yellow: wrong spot Green: right spot
How to use the Wordle Solver: step by step
Follow these steps after every guess you make in Wordle. The whole process takes a few seconds per guess.
Step 1: Make your first guess in Wordle
Open Wordle and enter any valid 5-letter word. A starter with common letters, such as CRANE, SLATE or STARE, gives you the most useful clues.
Step 2: Type the same word into the solver
Use your keyboard, or tap the letters on the on-screen keyboard above the results. The letters fill the first row. Made a typo? Press Backspace (or tap Delete) and retype it.
Step 3: Set each tile to the color Wordle showed
Once all five letters are in, the tiles become tappable. New tiles start grey. Tap a tile once for yellow, twice for green, and a third time to go back to grey.
- Grey means the letter is not in the word.
- Yellow means the letter is in the word, but in a different spot.
- Green means the letter is in the word and in the right spot.
Step 4: Read the list of possible words
The results update instantly. You will see how many words are still possible, split into two groups:
- Likely answers are words from the original Wordle answer list. These are the best words to try next.
- Other valid guesses are words Wordle accepts as guesses but almost never uses as the answer.
Step 5: Pick your next guess and repeat
Tap any word in the list, or the suggested next guess, and it fills the next row for you. Play that word in Wordle, then repeat steps 3 and 4 with the new colors. Keep going until only one word is left, which is your answer. The solver has room for all six guesses.
Step 6: Start over for a new puzzle
Tap Reset to clear every row and begin again.
Worked example
You guess CRANE and Wordle shows this:
Enter the same colors in the solver. Out of 12,972 words, only 150 still fit, and 40 of them are likely answers, such as DIRGE, FORGE, GORGE, HORDE and HORSE.
Say you try HORSE next and Wordle shows this:
Add that row, and just 29 words remain. Only seven are likely answers: DIRGE, EERIE, MERGE, PUREE, PURGE, VERGE and VERVE. From here you can usually finish in one or two more guesses.
Tips for better results
- Copy the colors exactly. One wrong tile can make the list empty. If you see "No matching words", re-check each tile against Wordle.
- Repeated letters are handled for you. If you guess a word with two of the same letter and Wordle colors one grey and the other yellow or green, enter exactly that. The solver then knows the word contains just one copy.
- Use the suggested guess while many words remain. It is picked to test the most common letters among the remaining words. When only a handful are left, choose one of the likely answers instead.
- Hard mode is fine. The solver always shows words that match every clue you have entered, so every word listed is a legal hard-mode guess.
The solver uses the original Wordle dictionary (2,315 answers and 10,657 other valid guesses). Words added to the game later may be missing.
